Assistant Controller Job Summary:

Dynamix ESG is seeking an experienced, full-time Assistant Controller to join our rapidly growing professional services team located in the Pittsburgh, PA region. We are scaling quickly and need a candidate who thrives on challenge and will be engaged and accountable. The Assistant Controller enhances financial controls, processes, and oversees compliance with our policies and procedures. These functions and processes produce timely and accurate monthly and quarterly financial results in compliance with US GAAP requirements. This role instills a culture of strong internal controls across the company and is responsible for compliance with our technical accounting standards. The company is looking for a candidate that can hit the ground running and make an immediate impact.

Assistant Controller Job Details:

  • Employment Type: Full Time Remote Position
  • FLSA Classification: Exempt
  • Reports to: Director of HR
  • Travel Required: Minimal

Assistant Controller Success Snapshot:

  • Onshore the Assistant Controller role from outsource firm in first two months
  • Improve and maintain the accuracy and timeliness of the financial statement reporting; prepare monthly financial package by 15th of each month
  • Own weekly and monthly reporting including weekly cash flow, financial statements, bank reporting and board preparation in first month
  • Lead billing team and continuously improve billing process immediately and ongoing
  • Lead various audit projects including annual financial audits, bank and client audits
Requirements:

Assistant Controller Expectations/Responsibilities:

  • Manage all facets of financial accounting, budgeting, accounts payable, payroll reconciliation and cash management, credit risk, billing process and accounts receivable/collections management
  • Monitor cash balances and ensure proper cash forecasts and reporting
  • Develop and implement best practices financial strategies, policies and procedures to improve the overall performance of the organization
  • Improve and manage all aspects of the billing process; manage develop the billing team; handle client billing issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Direct the accounting staff to ensure that proper procedures are being completed; develop and coach team members to maximize their skills and talents
  • Responsible for appropriate submission of all federal and state income and sales tax returns, state registrations and directs the maintenance of related tax files
  • Support corporate transactions including debt financing due diligence
  • Manage client profitability and reporting
  • Work closely with HR to administer employee benefits

Assistant Controller Education/Requirements/Certs:

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting
  • Previous Senior Accountant and/or Assistant Controller experience is preferred
  • At least 3 years corporate accounting / general ledger experience
  • Industries preferred: Oil and Gas, Engineering, Technical Services, Professional Services
  • Working knowledge of project management accounting, financial management job costing procedures and workflows
  • Proven experience developing and leading a high-performing accounting and control organization.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experienced and skilled in Quickbooks a plus
  • Must be hands-on but also able to see the big picture
  • Excellent organizational skills when working in fast moving environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; attention to detail and accuracy in work; coach the team to work and support the entire company
  • Enthusiastic team player, productive working independently or as part of a group; ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Mature attitude towards confidential information in small company environment
  • Person-centered and empathetic leadership style that creates a positive work environment and culture with a preference for empowering those around you
  • Experience in PE or Investor backed portfolio companies helpful
  • Ability to both grow in the role and grow with the company, demonstrating leadership capabilities and upward progression.
